Responsible Investing Approach
The Responsible Entity has delegated investment management decisions for the Fund, which includes taking into account labour standards or environmental, social and ethical considerations for the purposes of selecting, retaining or realising investments, to the Stewart Investors as the Investment Manager.
Subject to any exceptions, the Funds will not invest in companies that derive more than 5% of their gross revenues from activities and practices, that Stewart Investors considers to be harmful and controversial. What the Fund Manager considers to be harmful and controversial products, services or practices may be amended from time to time. For the purposes of determining the gross revenue of a company, the Fund relies on the most recently reported gross revenue in the company's accounts or gross revenue estimates provided by reputable third-party research providers. As per its Position statement, Stewart Investors consider harmful and controversial products, services or practices: fossil fuels, nuclear power, alcohol and tobacco production, gambling and pornography production and sales, involved in the manufacture of armaments, amongst others.
Stewart Investors seeks to identify and invest in companies which it believes have prospects of long-term positive financial returns and also contribute to, and benefit from sustainable development. The Manager incorporates environmental, social and governance considerations into the management of the Fund, it does not rely solely on quantitative thresholds for incorporating sustainability or ESG considerations but rather evaluates a company's track record and business model through a Quality Assessment and Sustainability Assessment. Stewardship is a key part of Stewart Investors' approach at each stage of the investment life cycle as it provides a channel through which Stewart Investors can assess and monitor a company's quality and contribution to sustainable development and encourage management teams to address any issues relevant to its business.
