Impax Sustainable Leaders Fund

Responsible Investing Approach

Environmental, Social and Governance analysis is an integral part of Impax's investment research process, providing risk mitigation and important insight into the "character" of a company. Impax's ESG analysis follows the materiality approach, which means assessing the most significant environmental and social risks for a company within the sector and activity in question. Impax looks for strong policies, processes and disclosures of ESG management systems to address these material risks. Detailed analysis of governance structures from a country perspective is also conducted. The Fund Manager conducts a detailed, proprietary ESG analysis of new companies and issuers considered for the investable universe and review the ESG analysis on a periodic basis. It considers five main pillars within its ESG analysis: Governance, Material Environmental, Social, and Other Risks, Climate Change, Human Capital Management and E, D&I, and Controversies.

The Fund does not invest in companies with over 5% revenue exposure to pornography, alcohol, gambling, or nuclear power. It does not invest in companies that derive any revenue from tobacco production or controversial weapons.

Impax has a policy of active engagement on ESG issues and regularly meets and engages with the management of investee companies in the course of the ongoing investment process, as well as regarding any specific issues of concern, such as specific ESG issues or concerns. Impax engages with companies and other issuers when we have identified specific ESG issues or concerns when we require further information regarding an ESG aspect (that is not publicly disclosed) and/or to encourage improvement in company ESG policies, processes and disclosures.

These strategies are encapsulated within Impax Environmental Markets, covering diverse sectors such as energy (including renewable energy and energy efficiency), clean and efficient transport (with a focus on pollution reduction and public transport), sustainable food (encompassing logistics, safety, and packaging), water (including infrastructure, treatment, efficiency, and utilities), circular economy initiatives (such as waste management and recycling), and smart environmental solutions (including digital infrastructure and testing).

Conventions & Treaties

Impax has been a signatory to United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) since 2008.
